Ross Daly and Kelly Thomas

Ross Daly and Kelly Thomas are a completely unique duet. Central to their musical world is the lyre, an instrument found in many musical traditions of the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean and of course in Crete where they have been living for many years. The music played by Ross Daly and Kelly Thomas, however, do not belong to any specific local or national tradition.

It includes a rich range of influences from many and various timeless tropical traditions that respond harmoniously to a new genre and listening that Ross Daly himself calls contemporary tropical music. But this genre is little like what we usually imagine when we call contemporary music.

The sound of this music lies somewhere outside the specified time where it regresses among primary sounds of the distant past and sounds from the future. Ross Daly and Kelly Thomas, inspired by a deep faith and perception of transcendent and

Then all the knowledge they have gathered from these sources is incorporated into their own compositions that reflect their perception of the sacred nature of music itself. With them in percussion or

O Ross Daly και η Κέλυ Θωμά αποτελούν ένα εντελώς μοναδικό ντουέτο. Κεντρική θέση στο μουσικό τους κόσμο έχει η λύρα, ένα όργανο που συναντάται σε πολλές μουσικές παραδόσεις των Βαλκανίων και της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου και βέβαια στην Κρήτη όπου ζούνε εδώ και πολλά χρόνια. Η μουσική που παίζουν ο Ross Daly και η Κέλυ Θωμά όμως δεν ανήκει σε καμία συγκεκριμένη τοπική ή εθνική παράδοση.

Συμπεριλαμβάνει μια πλούσια γκάμα επιδράσεων από πολλές και διάφορες διαχρονικές τροπικές παραδόσεις που ανταμώνουν αρμονικά σε ένα καινούριο είδος και άκουσμα που ο ίδιος ο Ross Daly ονομάζει Σύγχρονη Τροπική Μουσική. Αυτό το είδος όμως ελάχιστα μοιάζει με αυτό που συνήθως φανταζόμαστε όταν λέμε σύγχρονη μουσική.

Ο ήχος της μουσικής αυτής βρίσκεται κάπου έξω από το καθορισμένο χρόνο όπου παλινδρομεί ανάμεσα σε αρχέγονα ακούσματα του μακρινού παρελθόντος και σε ήχους από το μέλλον. Ο Ross Daly και η Κέλυ Θωμά, εμπνευσμένοι από μια βαθιά πίστη και αντίληψη περί της υπερβατικής και
υπερπροσωπικής διάστασης των πανάρχαιων και αρχετυπικών τροπικών παραδόσεων της Ανατολής, έχουν μαθητεύσει κοντά σε κάποιους από τους σημαντικότερους εκπροσώπους αυτής της μουσικής.

Στη συνέχεια όλη η γνώση που έχουν συγκεντρώσει από αυτές τις πηγές ενσωματώνεται σε δικές τους συνθέσεις που αντανακλούν την αντίληψή τους περί της ιερής φύσης της ίδιας της μουσικής. Μαζί τους στα κρουστά η
